Two very different kinds of ambition
SnapCalorie is one of the most technically impressive apps in this category. It came out of ex-Google AI engineering, it has published real research about how accurate photo estimation can be, and it pulls thirty-plus micronutrients out of a single picture of a plate. That’s not marketing noise, it’s a hard problem solved well.
Navilo Health starts from the same photo, but the ambition points sideways instead of down. We want the plate scanned quickly and accurately enough to be useful, and then we want the rest of the day in the same app: the run, the sleep, the fast, the water, the coach who has seen all of it.
If you care about iron, potassium, B12 or fibre rather than just calories and protein, SnapCalorie will tell you more from one photo than we will. For anyone managing a deficiency, an athletic diet or a medical restriction, that detail matters.
It also has one of the most generous free tiers around and a voice logging option for when the camera is impractical. Our nutrient breakdown doesn’t go that deep.
