01

The kindest app on the list

Simple made a deliberate choice that most of this category avoided: hide the numbers. Instead of a calorie total, you get a rating for your meal, some friendly feedback, and a fasting timer that explains what your body is doing while you wait. For people who find calorie counting stressful or have a difficult history with it, that design is thoughtful.

Navilo Health takes the opposite bet. We think the numbers are useful, and the reason people hate them is the typing, not the maths. So we start with the camera: snap the plate and get items back with calories, protein, carbs and fat in a couple of seconds.

02

Why people love Simple

Simple is fasting-first and it shows: a polished timer, clear explanations of each fasting stage, mood and hunger check-ins, and coaching that keeps the tone encouraging rather than clinical. If intermittent fasting is the main thing you’re doing, Simple handles it better than we do.

The gentleness is real too. No red numbers, no guilt, no sense that you failed a spreadsheet. Some people need exactly that.

03

Ratings versus real numbers

A meal score is a nudge, and it stops there. If your meal scores well but the weight is not moving, Simple can’t tell you whether you’re eating 1,800 or 2,600 calories, because it never measured. That vagueness is comfortable at first and frustrating by month two, when you want to know what to change.

It’s also food and fasting only. No GPS run, walk or ride tracking, no workout log, no sleep tracking, and only limited barcode and voice logging when the camera is not practical. The rest of your day stays outside the app.

Navilo keeps the friendly part and adds the facts. Snap the plate, see the rings, correct what looks off. Track a run and you get a map, splits and pace beside the meal that fuelled it. Sleep sits next to your snacking, the fasting timer shares the same dashboard, and the AI coach reads all of it, so answers come from your real numbers. Streak freezes and buddy challenges catch the week that goes sideways.

04

Fifty dollars, minus the tracking

Simple runs about $50 a year for a fasting timer, meal ratings and coaching. Add a real calorie tracker, a run app and a sleep app on top and you’re into several subscriptions with separate histories.

Navilo starts free with an optional Premium tier, and food, fasting, runs, sleep and water live in one history.

05

Numbers, or no numbers

Simple and Navilo: your questions

Can Navilo Health do what Simple does?

Yes. Both have a fasting timer, AI coaching and a gentle approach to habits. Navilo adds full AI photo calorie scanning with real macros, a barcode scanner, GPS run and walk tracking, sleep tracking, weekly meal plans and buddy challenges.

Does Simple count calories?

Not really. Simple grades your meals with a rating and feedback rather than showing exact calories and macros, which is deliberate but means you never learn your actual intake. Navilo shows the numbers, and keeps logging to a photo so it stays quick.

Is Simple fasting timer better than Navilo?

Simple is fasting-first, with stage explainers, mood check-ins and a polished timer, so it has the deeper fasting experience. Navilo has a solid fasting timer that sits on the same dashboard as your food, runs and sleep.

Simple is one of the pricier apps. How do the costs compare?

Simple is roughly $50 a year. Navilo Health is free to start with an optional Premium tier.

What is Simple better at?

Fasting depth and gentleness. The fasting stages, mood check-ins and no-numbers design make it calm and beginner-friendly, which suits people who find calorie counting stressful.
